Elmhurst have been working hard to renovate their garden into a comfortable space for all to enjoy.

Ruth Holder, registered manager, has explained a little about their refurbishment journey:

Previously our garden area was not a user-friendly space. The flags were uneven which made it difficult for people with poor mobility to move on.

There was a very large overgrowth of weeds at the back part of the garden which was growing up over one of the windows.

The raised beds were overgrown and in desperate need of some tender loving care.

Since I’ve been the manager, having an accessible space that everyone can enjoy has been on my wish list!

Now we have that beautiful open space that can be enjoyed by everyone.

The overgrowth has been ripped out and replaced with a gravel area, which we plan to fill with pots and flowers to add some colour, all the flags have been removed and replaced with a large area of artificial grass and user-friendly flooring.

We are awaiting some raised flower beds where we plan to grow our own vegetables to help support being part of a green environment, these beds will allow people we support to access from all areas and differing heights to enable wheelchair users to also enjoy the area.

We are looking at creating a pub space for the people we support to enjoy in the future and a canopy which will create a shaded area on those hot and sunny days.

Well done Elmhurst!
