Why did we open a community garden?
As part of the Ageing in Place Project, Steven Greason, community engagement manager, completed a community audit and found there was a lack of safe spaces for people to enjoy in Moorside. When The Green Community Café reopened in early 2024 after it had been closed during lockdown, the garden was reopened too. Residents of Moorside were keen to get hands-on in transforming the garden into a community space for all to enjoy.
What's there to do?
We have a group of committed volunteers* who meet every Monday to transform the garden. Click here for more information.
There are picnic benches, a sensory garden, vegetable planters, and a pond. Everything in the garden is completely new as of 2024.
Feel free to come down and pick your own veg - free of charge!
We have mini wheelbarrows and watering cans so your little ones can join in on the fun.
*To join the volunteer group, please go into The Green Community Café and ask for the volunteer register. You will need to sign this to become a member of the volunteer group, which means you can visit the garden whenever you want, no matter the opening hours!
Who uses the garden?
Everyone! People of all ages, families and even dogs** come to enjoy our garden!
**Please keep dogs on a lead at all times and pick up after them.
