Mccauley earned his Gold Duke of Edinburgh award in 2022 and was invited down to Buckingham Palace for an award ceremony delivered by Prince Edward!
Macc travelled to the event with his nan on the train.
"I was excited but nervous, since it was my first time going to London and I wasn't sure what to expect. My nan is really proud that I got my DofE and she was happy to be invited to the garden party too! The event was very busy, there were lots of other people getting their awards as well and Prince Edward gave a speech congratulating us all. We had carrot cake and a cup of tea in the garden with everyone else who had received an award. There were two brass bands who played trumpets and flutes and the weather was sunny. I took some pictures outside the palace. I really feel like all my hard work has paid off."
Macc's new volunteering role
Macc now uses his knowledge and experience by spending time each month with a group in Warrington who are working towards their silver DofE award! He helps them improve their map reading, compass reading and tent building skills - "this last one is the most important skill," he says "and I love teaching it to others".
Well done Macc!
