This Volunteer Recognition Day, we’re celebrating the incredible contributions of the people we support at Persona; people generously give their time and skills to help others, making a real difference within our services and the wider community.
In our day services, several people with learning disabilities take on roles that keep Persona running smoothly while helping them develop new skills. One person works as a kitchen assistant at The Elms, gaining hands-on experience alongside Persona staff. They are learning teamwork and practical skills and they hope to teach others how to take on similar roles in the future. We also have a fantastic yoga facilitator who helps lead sessions and encourages everyone to take part. This year, they want to improve the yoga programme by fundraising for new equipment.
People we support also play a key role in recruiting new staff by joining interview panels to ensure their voices shape the hiring process. In addition to these formal roles, people contribute through everyday tasks in our services including The Green Café, such as washing up, tidying, and supporting staff and peers.
Beyond Persona, we know many people we support are active volunteers in their communities. People make valuable contributions in diverse roles, from volunteering with Cancer Research UK and managing donations to supporting local election campaigns by leafleting and speaking with residents.
We see every day how much the people we support bring to our services through their time, skills, and dedication.
We're working with Oli and Improving Adult Care Together (IMPACT) throughout 2025 to get feedback from the families and carers of people we support, to shape the future of our learning disability day service and ensure it helps people achieve what's important to them.
