When Two Became Three

Peter and Ralph have been living together for 11 years now, and it’s been Peter’s long-standing wish to move into a bungalow. So, when the opportunity arose, he jumped at it!

Even better, Ralph was happy to move with him, plus they welcomed a new friend, George, into their trio.

We asked Michelle McMahon, service manager, to tell us more about the duo turned trio and what the move entailed:

Why do Peter and Ralph enjoy living together?

Peter and Ralph have always enjoyed going on holiday together, their most recent being a cruise. They enjoy going out socially to the pub or for a meal, and they share a common interest in football (Peter supports Tottenham Hotspur and Ralph supports Manchester City) so they enjoy talking about matches.

How did they find the new house?

Persona was offered the opportunity to take over the property from another care provider.

Did they want a third person to live with them?

Ralph and Peter used to share with a third person until he moved out when his health needs changed so they are used to living with someone else too. They didn’t know George but in the lead up to the move they met up a few times either with visits to their house or out for a meal.

Why was George a good match to live with Peter and Ralph?

Despite the age gap, Peter and Ralph have always had a good relationship and enjoy football banter, and we found George has similar interests. He is also a football fan, supporting Bolton Wanderers, and he likes going on holiday, especially abroad, and has shown an interest in holidaying with Peter and Ralph. Another common interest he has with Ralph is that they both enjoy gaming.

Are things different now they live with George? If so, how?

Nothing has changed relationship-wise and they've even said it seems as if George has lived there for far longer than he has.

Why did George decide it was time to move out of his parents?

George’s parents told us it was always the plan for him to eventually move out of the family home. George tells us he likes being more independent and making his own decisions.

Can they all tell us what it's been like learning to live with different people in a new house?

They're all getting along great and working things out together so far.

How have Persona supported them during the move?

We helped them to prepare for the move ahead of time. Peter and Ralph met George so they all got to know each other and they all visited their new house before moving day. Peter had lots of questions and was pleased that the house is a bungalow as it’s easier for him to move around and he shared photos with his family who all supported the move. The supported living team enabled Peter and Ralph to packed their personal belongings and both were very much involved in deciding where they wanted things to go in their new home. George was supported to move from home by his parents.
